MEC LEHARI SATISFIED, 'MOGWASE POLICE STATION COMPLIES WITH COVID-19 REGULATIONS' MOGWASE: North West Community Safety and Transport Management, MEC Sello Leahari applauds the Mogwase Police Station in the Bojanala District for its satisfactory compliance with COVID-19 regulations. Lehari’s complement came during the unannounced visit he conducted today to monitor whether the station is compliant with the set regulations. The MEC says the police stations are at the forefront of ensuring compliance with COVID-19 regulations, therefore, it is important for him to monitor whether they, themselves, do comply. “Police are at the forefront of enforcing law enforcement on COVID-19 regulations and it is therefore important for them to lead by example regarding compliance issues. That is the reason why we are here today, and I’m happy that this station is definitely leading by an example,” said Lehari. In an engagement with the Department’s Directorates for Monitoring and Oversight on Police as well as Crime Prevention officials, the Station Commander Colonel Oupa Raphata confirmed that the station is trying it’s best to create a safer environment for the law officers and public visiting the stations for various services. Regrettably, the station has closed three times recently following COVID-19 positive cases reported affecting officers for the sake of following all precautionary protocols on decontamination. “We only had three positive cases here, and we closed for 24 hours per incident to decontaminate the station. We are pleased that all those affected members have recovered. We also have enough supply of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE’s) and we conduct disinfection of the station regularly. We also ensures that our community members does not only observe social distancing while queueing for assistance but wash hands or are sanitised after screening at the entrance of our Community Service Centre (CSC),” said Raphata who further outlined that the station has established a COVID-19 steering committee which is responsible for collating reports and actioning protocols and monitor compliance with regulations. The station has further put measures to restrict officer’s unnecessary movements while on duty to ease the contact tracing in case there is a positive case. The Department’s unannounced visit to the station is part of the MEC’s programme of action on fumigating the public transport ranks to create a safer transportation environment. Today's program started with the disinfection of the Mogwase taxi ranks and is expected to be rolled every Wednesday of the week for the next few months in all four districts of the North West Province as the antenna to combat the spread of COVID-19 reaches the peak.
